Gun Wish List / Recomendations

OK Lads.

I'm planning on moving to New Zealand some time in the not to distant future (finances / economy willing). Currently living under a "no semi-auto" government with a very anti-gun public (cry babies).

So any old how. Check out http://www.guncity.co.nz and give me your opinions. I'll be getting every class license that I can. Check out the "C" category (As I understand it you can buy them but can't "play" with them. TEOTWAWKI though......)

Things to consider

- NZ landscape
- Ammo (I'll be starting at square one again.... currently I have plenty but won't be able to take them over)
- NZ allows silencers
- NZ ammo is generally expensive

What I would like

- 1 x Shotgun (12 gauge)
- Centre fire
- Rimfire (suppressed)
- 2 x handguns

Note - I'll be initially buying for 2 adults. Then I'll need a hunting gun (maybe my current steyr scout in 308?? ---Geoff Cooper Package :-) ) I also have inlaws over whom are sheeple (Maybe these babies)......

Thinking sks (5 shot limited) for loaners coupled with this baby for me.

Come on guys. Dreaming about what guns to buy is a large part of the fun :ok:

Re: Gun Wish List / Recomendations

My rules:

- semiauto only
- all black
- only one caliber in each style (pistol, rifle, shotgun)
- most common calibers available for the best price
- detachable box magazines
- high capacity mag availability

Re: Gun Wish List / Recomendations

BTW, I prefer pistol calibers with the most SMG/carbine options.

e cat.......... m16s military stuff. 6mm gun safe, bit of hassle but easy to do

b cat........ pistols...... join a club, takes a year

a cat,...... shotguns and rifles, semi autos as long as not evil looking black ones...lol

good luck

My recommendations, considering your NZ terrain and political situation:

Remington 870 Marine Magnum (12 Gauge Shotgun)
Ruger 77/22 (Bolt-action .22LR Rimfire Rifle) W/Detachable Silencer
Tikka T3 W/Heavy Barrel in .223 Rem., .243 Win., or 6.5x55 Swede (Centerfire Bolt-action Rifle)
Sig Sauer P226 or P228 in 9mm (Handgun) W/Detachable Silencer if affordable
H&K P2000 V3 in 9mm (Handgun)

If you can afford it, add another Tikka or Sako (or Browning) bolt action rifle in .30-06 Springfield.

+1 on the Swede a great shooting cartridge indeed.

"The 6.5x55 has lasted longer than the .30-06 for good reason. It is accurate; recoil is at a level that most any hunter or shooter can handle easily; the long, sleek .264 bullets penetrate farther than expected; and it will digest handloads and factory ammunition with equal aplomb."

Re: Gun Wish List / Recomendations

I would consider something like a lever-action Marlin 30-30. Useful for hunting, can fire at a much faster rate than a bolt-action....I didn't really look at the License Classes, but I assume a lever-action rifle is easier to obtain than an AR15.

Re: Gun Wish List / Recomendations

two most common rifle calibers are 270 and 308
you can get ammo for them anywhere
anything else can be chancy if you are not in the big cities or near a major shooting area.
If you do your homework you can bring some of your stuff with you to nz...

My recommendation:

Two of each, and/or parts kits. Whatever you end up with, become intimately familiar with it and learn how to do extensive cleaning and repair operations.

The SKS is great but I like rifles that shoot NATO ammunition. But in NZ I have no idea of the ammo situation. If you do get an SKS please, please buy a Tech-Sight for it. Will do you much better than the stock iron sights.
